Surviving The Gundersen Cup

You know you're not 16 anymore, when your pre game warm up includes:
jacking the heat in the car up to 100 degrees and eating a handful of ibuprofen.
Post game you need to nurse wounds round the clock with ibuprofen, ice and elevation. Travis enjoyed playing but two 30 minute halves with few subs was rough on the guys. He says he needs to play more "strategically" now-like he can only give bursts of speed some time so he needs to choose those times wisely. The resident-staff race is tonight.....I think it's going to be a rough week for everyone with a lot more ibuprofen. It's certainly more fun to watch and joke as we age!

I was entertained by one of the spectators shirts:
I came
I played
I conquered.

We were thinking more along the lines of:
I came
I played (sort of)

30th Birthday Party

My card to Travis said: Look, it's the birthday boy!
And on the inside: I hope you get the attention you deserve.
And I think Travis would agree, he got PLENTY of attention.

Putting together his new Lego set: The Battle of Endor. I thought a gift like Legos might not make him feel quite so old.

We had a bunch of friends and family over last night for cake, appetizers and drinks. A very fun night!

A Big Day!

His artistic debut at a gallery!

So, today a certain someone turned 30; an uneventful day for the family as Travis worked all day, met us at the Pump House at 4:30 and was promptly paged at 5 as he's on call tonight. He didn't seem overly thrilled at his picture being posted around the hospital to inform everyone that he was in fact now 30 (He can thank the OR staff for that one). We'll celebrate tomorrow and post some pictures of the now wrinkled and haggered Old Man. Therin made Travis not 1, not 2, but 3 birthday cards; one of which he got his entire class to sign (He's such a thoughtful boy that one!). The kids were quite upset tonight that Dad did not get to open his gifts and if their rules apply "You can only open presents on your birthday or you have to wait until Christmas." I'm guessing that rule will be broken tomorrow but we'll see. (That could be a long wait for you Josh!)

Oh! On the way to the art exhibit, Therin was telling me how he could combine his two favorite loves: art and football. He could play football and when he wasn't playing, sit on the sidelines and draw. Hmmmm......draw plays?

The man who doesn't rest

STUDY BEFORE

BEDROOM BEFORE

BEDROOM AFTER

Travis had an unexpected day off Friday, so rather than chill he was itching to refinish the floor in his study. It was a lot faster and less dusty than the upstairs so we're thankful for that. The floor looks great. Thanks honey!! Now I just have to load the pictures from the before and afters to the blog from a new camera I haven't played with yet (soon but not tonight-we still have an hour or so of things to put back in the study). Travis also finished his hot box outside so we transferred our spinach seedlings into it on Sunday. I can't wait for fresh greens!
