The 4th of July

Therin sporting his new pullover.
The 4th of July was a pretty chill day. We skyped with the Stines, hiked to the kids school through the Marquam Trails (shocking was mispronouncing), went to REI to stock up on non cotton clothing and socks, napped, watched the Goonies, and headed off to watch fireworks off one of the OHSU decks. It was amazing! I think we saw thousands of fireworks, you could see for miles. Even during the main show, it was like a background of mini fireworks. The moon took the cake though. The pictures don't do it justice-a huge glowing ball of orange. SO beautiful! I was definately distracted by all the patients on the deck though. My heart went out to them and their families. There was one little guy in particular who had more bags on his IV pole than I thought was possible except maybe in ICU. I might volunteer some of my time at the hospital while I am here. You can also see Mt. Hood on a clear day which is a novelty here (2nd pic). Mt. St. Helens is not in any of the pictures but you can see that off to the left. Amazing views! And why Blogger is not honoring my spacing is beyond me....Grrrr!!

Guidebooks

Liz asked me what I was going to do next week when the kids are at camp? Hmmm.... I thought, I don't know. Last night, as all of you Wisconsinites were probably tucked in bed, I poured over guidebooks. Hopworks Urban Brewery definately a place to check out; among the great beers is a play structure for kids! Brewfest is coming up at the end of the month; we'll have to see if we can get a babysitter for that and check it out. We've started a list of things we'd like to do while we're here: Mt. St. Helens Mt. Hood Oregon Coast Multnomah Falls I think we'll decide what we're going over the weekend today. Thanks Jacqui and Brian and Ashley for the guidebooks. Julie, are you proud?

Portland Day 3

Our FIRST MAIL!!!
View heading up the Sky Tram.
View on a patio/deck outside of the OHSU hospital.
Our living room area.
Day #2 Second trip to Goodwill and Home Depot. Home Depot had a free building event for kids; Therin made a sailboat and Kya a birdhouse. Went to the Visitors Center and got library cards. Ate at the food trucks downtown. Hiking in Marquam Trails. Day #3 Checked out parks closest to our condo. Went to the closest grocery store which is a food coop that has phenonmenal salmon (but the prices are pretty steep). AMAZING farmer's market within 2 blocks so we loaded up on berries, sheep cheese and sobrosetta-so easy to make lunch!!! After a rest/nap time; headed out to ride the Sky Tram. They were partnering with the Children's museum today so they were giving tours of the Tram operating facility, had a few children's activities and met my sister, Julie's friend, Ryan, who is in charge of all of the PR for the Sky Tram. Got a 2 for 1 coupon to the Children's museum-score!! Walked around downtown along the waterfront (where most of the festivals here are held) and headed back home up the tram.
